Mother's Day is coming!

Mother's Day is coming! Mother's Day is coming!

Mother's Day is coming right up. For those that don't know yet Mother's Day is May 8th. It's not time to panic yet, you still have time to get Mom what she really wants. I mean we aren't down to the last minutes and the only options left are at the local convenience store with the almost dead flowers or way overpriced chocolates.

Chances are pretty good that Mom does a lot of the cooking in her house so why not give Mom a gift that she can use for years to come.  Our salt and pepper mills fall perfectly into that category. Check out all that we offer for salt and pepper mills here on our Dailey Woodworking site or here on our Etsy page. Place your order for a custom mill by April 25th and I will get it to you in time for Mother's Day (sorry this applies to US orders only).

You will get the added bonus of every time Mom uses her mill while cooking or entertaining she will think of you.

This year don't be one of those people with that look of fear in your eyes as you frantically search for an undented box of chocolates. Get Mom that salt or pepper mill that she really wants and become the apple of her eye again!

Turning the inside of a bowl

11 1/2 inch Curly Maple Salad Bowl

Here is my first attempt at shooting a video using my iPad of myself turning the inside of a bowl. I had shot some video with the iPad before but wasn't really sure how the lighting and quality would be in my shop with all the equipment running. In the end it turned (no pun intended) out to be okay.

This was a crude set-up to say the least. I didn't have a good way to hold my iPad in the upright position so I did what all good Mainers would do. I improvised, ayuh. I stood the iPad on top of a box with 2 boards stacked on top of that box and all of that was stacked on top of a dust collection unit. I wouldn't recommend this for long term success but it worked this time and that's all that counts.

I have some improvements to make in my video taking, centering the shot would be a big improvement. I have ordered a device to actually hold the iPad in the right spot so future videos should be better.

Please, let me know what you think of it.

Changes they are a coming

10 inch and 8 inch 6 color Rybec mills - Dailey Woodworking

This was originally posted on 12/31/2015

Some things are inevitable and change is one of those things. Just like the new year replacing the old year, changes are going to happen. I've decided to make a change with my blog, The Dailey Grind.  It's always been a blog written by me and mostly about things here at Dailey Woodworking. I'm still going to be doing those things but it's going to take place here on my site now and the link to the blog is blog.blog.daileywoodworking.com . For The Dailey Grind blog I'm changing the focus a little bit. I envision The Dailey Grind to be more of a site where you can find woodturning techniques, maybe with some carving and air brushing thrown in. To that end I've invited a few people to write about different topics that they are familiar with. But the biggest change is that I want to get out of my shop and shed some light on other Maine artists and artisans. I want to show you their work and their shops and what they are passionate about and why. Make sure to follow the Dailey Grind and take the journey with me around the state of Maine. It's going to be fun because I really don't have a plan as to which artisan you meet first.
